Otley Show History 2000-Present

However once again in 2001, the Show (as were all agricultural shows) was cancelled due to Foot and Mouth throughout the country but in 2002, Otley Show returned albeit without Cloven hoofed animals.

Three years later, in 2005, Otley Show was considered to have returned to its former glory as one of the most prestigious Agricultural Shows in the North with entries of 3537 (see 1936) and members 500+.

2006 saw horrendous weather for the show. Thanks to stalwart stewards and hardworking committee members, 6 tractors working 12 hours and everyone pulling together, we held a show. However the Show sustained a hefty loss which eradicated any profit made over the past few years.

2007-08 saw the emergence of Blue Tongue but in 2007 Otley Show was one of a very few to have full complement of animals, 2008 went ahead but with far fewer animals, with farmers feeling the effects of the devastation of Blue Tongue.

In 2009, we celebrated the 200th Otley Show. We were favoured with HRH Duke of Gloucester who showed great interest in the Show. We invited rare breeds, a number of which had been at the first show. We invited special Judges and held special Classes in all sections, presented special Rosettes and Prize Cards. To finish off the year, a Grand Ball was held in September.

2010 saw a fantastic day with wall to wall sunshine which made the setting up and dismantling so much easier and bringing in the biggest crowds for many years.

Then around comes 2013 and what a totally opposite day in comparison with 2010. Very wet and dismal with very few visitors but stalwart exhibitors came but sadly the ground was badly damaged. This year, the Show made a £20k loss!

What goes around comes around so in 2014-15, both Shows were again totally different - 2014 was an exceedingly hot day with record attendance and we introduced Otley Sailing Club to the lake and consequently most of 2013 loss was recouped. Shows since have continue to thrive with over 4000 exhibits and an average of 15000 visitors continuing to support the oldest one day agricultural show in the country.
